Everything you need to know about the morning wood
Every man has experienced it, waking up with a morning erection. In this blog, we will delve deeper into the subject of a morning wood. For example, how does a morning wood occur and what role does age play in it. How can it be that a morning wood suddenly does not occur anymore and many other questions and answers regarding morning wood are covered in this blog.
What is a morning wood?
A morning erection or morning wood, as the name actually says, is the phenomenon that men often experience, namely waking up in the morning with a hard penis. However, this is not just in the morning but several times an erection occurs during a man's sleep and especially during REM. REM sleep stands for "Rapid Eye Movement", we will elaborate on this later in the blog. So a morning erection is actually not necessarily related to the morning but to sleep cycles, so when you wake up in the morning with an erection it is often because you just woke up from your REM sleep.
What causes a morning erection?
Several explanations are given for a morning erection, such as that it is more common when you have a full bladder. The erection closes the urethra and you don't have to wake up to urinate. Other researchers think a morning erection occurs because that is when there is a spike in testosterone levels. All plausible explanations for an early morning erection. The explanation from REM sleep we talked about earlier also offers insight into morning erection. Indeed, one of the characteristics of REM sleep is the inhibition of noradrelin and stimulation of acetylcholine, and this hormonal response causes morning erection in men. Another explanation for morning erection is that because nitrogen builds up in the swelling bodies in the penis, it needs to be drained. So allowing blood to flow through here cleanses this and creates an erection. So there are several explanations for a morning erection and perhaps they also work together on erection.
The role of age on a morning erection
A morning erection can occur at any age; it has even been observed in a foetus in the womb. So it is perfectly normal for children to experience a morning erection. It is also healthy at any age and a sign of properly functioning blood and nervous system around the penis. An early morning erection occurs at any age but may diminish as men reach around 60-70. This is also the age when erectile dysfunction is more common. The role of age on an morning erection.
Reasons for the disappearance of a morning erection
As mentioned earlier, a morning erection is an indication of good blood circulation around the penis and that the nerves are functioning properly. So if you experience a morning erection, it also means that you are able to get an erection. So if you normally can't get an erection but experience a morning erection, in all likelihood it has a psychological cause. So the disappearance of a morning erection can be a sign that something is wrong. Some causes may include:
- Obesity
- High blood pressure
- High cholesterol levels
- Diabetes
- Depression
- Medication
- Antidepressants
So a morning erection may become less common as one gets older, but if you are young and do not experience a morning erection or if they suddenly stop, it may be a sign to see a doctor.
How to make a morning erection go away
If you want a morning erection to disappear, there are a few ways to accomplish this. The quickest way is to urinate when you are able to. A cold shower is another good way to constrict the blood vessels
constrict the blood vessels, making it limp quickly. Also, meditation or some breathing exercises in bed can help the morning erection become less.
Influence of testosterone on morning erections
Men most often experience a morning erection from their late teens to late 30s. From this, it is safe to conclude that testosterone definitely affects a morning erection. Therefore, the reason why older men experience a morning erection less often has to do with the production of testosterone. So, all in all, we can conclude that a morning erection is nothing strange and actually a sign of good health and vitality. It is a sign that your body is functioning well. Incidentally, if you no longer experience a morning erection, it is not that you have poor health.
What to do if you experience a painful morning erection
If you experience a painful morning erection, it could be priapism where you experience a morning erection that lasts for several hours. If this is the case, it is recommended that you visit a doctor as soon as possible.

dit is absoluut geen reden tot zorg. Dit is per persoon verschillend. Als u gewoon een erectie krijgt bij masturbatie of seksuele opwinding is dit in orde.
